In Pictures: Laois Martial Arts travels West

Laois Martial Arts (LMA) were on the road again this time to the Mugendo Open in Sligo.

A team of eight competed on the day in Light Contact and Pointfighting.

An ever-popular event, the Mugendo Open was officiated by Kickboxing Ireland and newly appointed WAKO President Roy Baker.

Team LMA started off the event with nine year old Hannah Reinhardt taking a top place finish in Pointfighting becoming Mugendo Open Champion. Hannah later went on to get a second place finish in Light Contact.

Hannah was followed closely by 11 year old Ciara McPartlan who competed again in both styles coming away with two third place finishes in what were two very tough sections.

Six year old Amy Comerford  was next up with a great performance in Point Fighting against a great fighters from Tallaght, coming away with a bronze medal as well as have a great fight in Light Contact.

Her brother seven year old Edward  took to the mats for Pointfighting coming out the wrong end of a decision to secure a well earned third place and going on to secure the same in Light Contact in a thrilling fight against a competitor from Offaly.

Fellow seven year old Anthony Conroy followed closely in pointfighting. Anthony has improved so much since the last event only three weeks ago. He displayed great performances in both Light Contact and Pointfighting.

Ten year old Cian O Brien took to the mats in his first Points event putting on a great performance in the intermediate level and securing a second place finish.

Multiple Irish Champion 15 year old Chloe Shortall took to the mats after a lengthy lay off, securing a third place medal in her first event in 4 months.

Thirteen year old Amelia Reinhardt had a super contest, narrowly missing out on the win by one point against an opponent from Northern Ireland.

Coach Shane Culleton commented that the team had a tough day against some great competitors.

“They all train so hard and they really do give everything on the mats. Its remarkable to see such young kids so dedicated and focused in their chosen sport,” said Shane.
