Draws have been made for 2019 Laois football championships

The draws have been for this year’s Laois football championships.

Portlaoise will begin their quest for three-in-a-row with a meeting with Ballylinan, a repeat of the 2017 final.

Last year’s beaten finalists O’Dempsey’s have been drawn against familiar opponents St Joseph’s while senior newcomers Courtwood will come up against seasoned campaigners but another small club in Arles-Kilcruise.

In the intermediate championship, two of the heavyweights – Mountmellick and Timahoe – have been paired together while relegated senior side Clonaslee will meet 2017 finalists Portlaoise.

2018 junior winners Annanough will meet semi-finalists of the past two seasons Rosenallis while St Joseph’s and The Rock will clash in the final game.

The senior and intermediate championship will follow the same format as recent years with a back door in place in the early stages.

The Junior ‘A’ follows the same 16-team structure as the senior – and the big draw in that will see Park-Ratheniska and Kilcavan meet in Round 1. There is also a couple of local derbies with Killeshin drawn to meet Graiguecullen and Spink to face Ballyroan-Abbey.

Last year’s relegated intermediate team Barrowhouse meet Portlaoise while beaten finalists O’Dempsey’s will face Camross.

The draws were also made for the lower grade championships as well as the new U-20 ‘A’ and ‘B’ championships which will be run on a group basis.
