Caution urged on Laois roads as snow begins to melt

The snow is slowly beginning to melt away this morning but conditions on our roads are slippery to say the least.

AA Roadwatch is reporting icy conditions in Laois and Kildare in particular.

Taking to Twitter, the traffic broadcaster said to be wary of “icy conditions” as “snow and slush may linger.”

They say: “Icy conditions have been reported this morning around Carlow Town, Naas, Portlaoise, Tullamore, Mullingar, Thurles, Kildare Town and Wicklow Town.

“Leave plenty of extra time to fully de-ice your car and in affected areas, slow down, leave plenty of of space behind the car in front and keep all manoeuvres gentle.

“Particular care is advised on secondary and local routes, and on higher ground, where snow and ice may linger.”

The snow arrived yesterday from a weather system associated with Storm Freya.

Snow began falling yesterday afternoon and caused chaos around the county.
