‘More people enter through the wall than through the door,’ at dangerous Laois junction

Calls have been made to carry out a safety audit on a dangerous junction in Laois at this week’s Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district meeting.

The junction in question is at Aghaboe Abbey, Ballacolla.

“Harvey’s house is on the corner there and I can tell you this – more people enter through the wall than through the door there,” said cllr John King, who proposed the safety audit.

“It’s the junction between Ballacolla and Borris-in-Ossory and it’s dangerous. It’s a blackspot,” said cllr King.

Agreeing with the motion was cllr Brendan Phelan, who said that this was an age-old motion.

“As long as I’ve been on this council, this has been an issue. I remember Martin Phelan putting in notices of motion year after year 10 years ago,” said cllr Phelan.

Cllr James Kelly also agreed with the motion, saying again that it was ‘a very dangerous junction’ and ‘supposed to be looked at’.
