Long serving Laois fire fighter retires from service

Dermot Healion, middle in the back row, has retired from the Laois County Fire and Rescue Service

Tributes have been paid to one of Laois’s longest serving firemen following his retirement.

Dermot Healion from Mountmellick has decided to hang up his helmet after a sterling period of service.

Dermot has spent 34 years keeping the people of Laois safe.

The Mountmellick native joined in 1985, and has been driving his fire truck to incidents big and small ever since.

Laois County Fire and Rescue Service thanked Dermot for all his years on their Facebook page.

They said: “One of our longest serving members retired recently after 34 years with Laois County Fire & Rescue Service.

“D/M Dermot Healion from Mountmellick joined in 1985, and has been driving LS15A1 to incidents big and small ever since.

“Best wishes for the future to Dermot from all his colleagues.”
