Rathdowney getting Duathlon ready and entries are open for this unique event

The Rathdowney Duathlon is back for a third year and organiser Barry Bowe is anticipating the running and cycling event to be even bigger and better than before.

The duathlon involves a 2.5 km run through the town followed by a 20 km cycle and finished with a 2.5 km run.

There is a elite section where athletes do both run and cycle and a relay section where a pair of athletes work together one doing the run and the other doing the cycle.

The best course times and people that hold them are currently:

Men’s Elite. Enda Meagher 60.03
Women’s Elite. Louise Mahony 63.48
Men’s Relay. Cian McDonald/ Derek Byrne 48.01
Women’s Relay. Breda Mcdonald/ Angela Hoare. 59.17

The duathlon fundraises for different charities and organisations each year and this year the funds go to the Irish Road Victims Association.
