End of an era in the Heritage Hotel as long-serving staff member calls time

The Heritage Hotel in Killenard  may be one of Laois’s newest hotels, but there was an end of an era this month when Mary Whelan retired as financial controller having been part of the staff since 2003, almost two years before the hotel opened its doors for business.

“It is with great fondness we bid farewell to our dear colleague Mary Whelan who has retired from The Heritage Hotel & Spa this month,” said Ger Alley, the hotel’s General Manager.

“Mary commenced employment with the Heritage Hotel & Spa back in October 2003 as Financial Controller for the resort. She formed part of the pre-opening senior management team for The Heritage when it opened its doors fully in May 2005.

“Since her commencement she has played an integral role in managing the property through many years of great success and through times of exciting change.

“Mary commenced her employment in the hospitality industry back in the 1970s, with the vast majority of her career spent working for the JurysDoyle Hotel group.

“She worked for many of their Dublin based hotels such as Jurys Ballsbridge Hotel,  The Green Isle Hotel, The Skylon Hotel and  Jurys Inn Christchurch to name a few.

“In more recent years Mary was delighted to eventually return to her home county of Laois to take up residence in Killenard and to join the very exciting pre-opening team of The Heritage Resort.

“Mary has shown outstanding commitment to her role as Financial Controller, she has quite literally dedicated her entire life to the hospitality industry and has done so with outstanding pride, loyalty and unquestionable dedication,  she will be sadly missed.

“From the team at The Heritage we wish Mary very best wishes in her retirement and we hope she enjoys the next chapter of her life, filled with good health, happiness and very fond memories for her hospitality days.”
