In Pictures: Fond farewell to beloved Laois teacher after 25 years

It was a bittersweet day in Clonaghadoo NS on Thursday as teacher Mary Treacy bid adieu to the school where she taught for 25 years.

Ms Treacy was the resource teacher, having come on board to the quaint country school in September 1994.

On Thursday June 20, an end of year mass was held, where Mary was spoken of with kind words by all those who knew her.

Principal Grainne Finnerty said: “Mary will be a huge loss to the school.

“She was full of energy and enthusiasm and will really be missed by both the staff and pupils alike.”

Mary was over the Green School’s ‘Green Team’ in the school, and the occasion was marked by Mary hoisting their newest Green Flag in front of the building.

During the end of year mass, Fr Noel Dunphy spoke of Mary’s love of travel – how she has crossed Africa and Asia, and how she will be able to continue this love of exploration during her retirement.

We wish Mary all the best as she says goodbye to Clonaghadoo NS after 25 years.
