Portlaoise will face O’Dempsey’s in the Division 1A final tonight after they defeated and relegated The Heath this evening.
The Town went into the game knowing that a win would see them reach the decider with a game to spare and they had the game wrapped up at half time.
Kieran Lillis, Craig Rogers and Jack Browne all raised green flags in the first half as Portlaoise raced into a 3-8 to 0-2 lead by half time.
Daithi Carroll grabbed a goal for The Heath in the second half but they had no answer to Portlaoise as they went down by 3-17 to 1-5 in the end.
What the result means now is that the remaining four league games that are set to be played in the next five days are all dead rubbers.
O’Dempsey’s and Portlaoise will contest the final while Arles-Kilcruise and The Heath are relegated regardless of what happens in these games.
On Thursday, Arles-Kilcruise face Graiguecullen, Ballyroan-Abbey face St Joseph’s and O’Dempsey’s play Portarlington.
While on Sunday, Portarlington are due to face Portlaoise.
It will be interesting to see how many, if any at all, of these game actually go ahead with championship just a few weeks away.
