Less than a week after the hurlers were shown live on TV, another Laois team will also appear on our screens.

The Leinster U-20 football championship final takes place on Friday evening at 7.30pm in Tullamore.

And the game, between Laois and Dublin, will be shown live on TG4.

Coverage will begin on TG4 at 7.15pm and the full match will then be shown.

Billy O’Loughlin’s Laois have reached this stage following a brilliant campaign so far.

Laois had to take part in a preliminary round where they face All-Ireland and Leinster champions Kildare in Newbridge three weeks ago.

Billy O’Loughlin’s charges trailed by a point at half time but led by captain Diarmuid Whelan they turned it around to win by three in the end.

He kicked ten points of Laois’s total with only a last minute Kildare penalty making it look a little closer than it was – 0-17 to 1-11.

Up next for Laois was Westmeath two weeks where they received an almighty shock and needed a late Alan Kinsella free to force extra time where they triumphed.

But it was far easier for Laois last week in the semi final against Meath as they wrapped the game up by half time.

Alan Kinsella was the goal-scorer in a 1-13 to 0-7 win that sees them advance to Friday’s final.

The last time Laois contested a final at this grade, back when it was U-21, was against a Dublin team managed by Jim Gavin in 2009.
