Laois minor camogs top off incredible season with Leinster crown

Laois 3-16 Meath 0-9
Leinster Minor B Cup Final

The Laois minor camogie team have done it. Topping off their All-Ireland success earlier this year, Robert Jones’s side today lifted the Leinster ‘B’ Cup after seeing off Meath.

The scores came thick and fast for Laois – 2-10 within the opening half.

U16 sharpshooter Lucy O’Connor struck gold today, putting away 1-3 in the first half, with St Brigid’s woman Alannah Tynan supplying the three points with one fell swoop at the Meath goals.

Kirsten Keenan (3), Andrea Scully (2), Shona Jones (1) and Clodagh Tynan (1) all added to the dectet of first half points for the Laois women, with one of Keenan’s and Tynan’s efforts coming from placed balls.

This all helped Laois to build up an eleven-point lead over the Royal county, going in 2-10 to five points at half-time.

Of course to keep Meath within the single digits meant strong defensive work too, with wing-back Molly O’Connor being singled out for her effort with a deserved Player of the Match award.

Laois managed to tuck away a further 1-6 after the break. Kirsten Keenan headed up the goal effort, while Lucy O’Connor, captain Alice Walsh and Scully all raised the white flags.

This brings to an end a thoroughly exciting and enjoyable year brought about by the Laois minor camogie team. No doubt we’ll see this side making further headlines in years to come.
