Laois ladies footballers live to fight another day in intermediate

It’s a victory and a huge sigh of relief for ladies football in Laois.

After seeing off Limerick 3-21 to 3–5 in today’s relegation battle, David Gibson’s side remain in the All-Ireland intermediate championship.

Both sides were neck and neck in the opening minutes of the first half, but Laois pushed in front in the latter stages of the half.

Two goals and twelve points from Mo Nerney, Erone Fitzpatrick, Aisling Kehoe and Emma Lawlor meant Laois went in 12 point leaders at the break.

Although Limerick came back with three goals of their own, Laois’s advantage over the Treaty county increased, relishing the prospect of staying at the grade.

They would finish the game with a 16 point gap between the teams to staying firmly at intermediate level for next year.

It means a return to junior level for last year’s junior champions Limerick.
