Tonight marks the second of the county finals down for decision this week as the footballers of Mountmellick and Errill face off in this junior ‘B’ county final.
Errill is not an area traditionally associated with football, but they have risen through the ranks quite successfully over the last number of years.
It marks the third time to contest a final in the past four years.
Amazingly, they only ended a 12-year spell of losing matches in 2014, when they defeated St Joseph’s by a point in round one of the junior ‘C’ championship.
The team aiming to stop Errill in their quest to enter the junior ‘A’ championship are Mountmellick.
Their second team won a Junior B football title and then went on to claim intermediate glory that same year.
Like Errill, Mountmellick also lost their Round 1 encounter against The Rock but recovered to defeat Slieve Bloom, Timahoe and Arles-Kilcruise to reach the final.
Darragh Hanlon, Jordan Williamson and Darren Young will be key players in Mountmellick’s arsenal tonight, but the main question for the side is how they can did with the fitness and stamina from the likes of Errill’s Jack Kelly, Paddy Purcell and John Purcell.
It’s set to be an exciting encounter, and you can follow all of the action live from here:
