Goals from Daniel Bergin and Paul Simms helped Spink to a Round 3 Laois JFC replay win over Killeshin in Crettyard this evening.

The sides drew on Saturday last but Spink did just about enough this evening to set up a quarter-final clash with Castletown on the week after next.

A goal from a Daniel Bergin penalty helped Spink to a 1-8 to 0-8 lead at the break, the bulk of Killeshin’s scores coming from Ronan Phelan and Paddy Walsh.

Ger Kelly struck for a goal for Killeshin early in the second half and a Cathal Byrne free put them into the lead.

But Spink responded well and a goal from Paul Simms with points from the likes of Ronan O’Reilly, Simms and Bergin and they outscored Killeshin by 1-4 to 0-2 over the remainder of the game to pull through.

Spink now play Castletown in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, August 10, with the other three quarter-finals – between O’Dempseys and Kilcavan, The Heath and Ballyroan-Abbey and Park-Ratheniska and The Harps taking place this Thursday evening.
