It’s the start of a very busy weekend of Laois GAA club action as football goes centre stage once again.
Because of Electric Picnic and the hurling weekend, it has been three weeks since we’ve had any major football championship games – and for some teams it’s five weeks since they’ve been in action.
This weekend is a huge one. Four senior quarter-finals, the senior relegation game, two intermediate semi-finals and two junior semi-finals are all down for decision. Nine games in total – and LaoisToday are here to keep you right up to date.
It is a slightly unusual weekend with no games down for decision on Saturday because of the All Ireland football final replay between Kerry and Dublin in Croke Park.
It means we have two games on Friday, five on Sunday and two on Monday.
This evening the first of the intermediate semi-finals takes place in O’Moore Park as Mountmellick and Clonaslee do battle for a final place. As the last two teams relegated from senior, expect this one to be a tense, closely-fought affair. That game gets underway at 8pm.
At the same time out the road in Stradbally, The Heath and Crettyard will be battling for their senior survival.
They meet at 8pm in the senior relegation game with the losers dropping to intermediate for 2020.
The Heath have lost to Portarlington, St Joseph’s and Stradbally to arrive here while Crettyard have been beaten by Arles-Killeen, Ballyfin and Arles-Kilcruise.
Expect that one, too, to be a right good battle.
