Portlaoise fighter, TJ ‘The Power’ Doheny claimed victory over Jesus Martinez of Colombia, after five rounds on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut.
This was Doheny’s first fight since his world title defeat to Danny Roman.
That fight had been Doheny’s first loss and he will be happy to have returned with a win.
Doheny pressed from the start and put Martinez under constant pressure.
When it came to the fourth round the Colombian was struggling to keep up with the Portlaoise fighter and seemed to be looking for an easy way out.
Doheny landed a knockdown and sent Martinez to the ropes with a backhand left.
Just as the bell went Martinez was wobbled by an undercut and he failed to re-immerge for the sixth roun
Doheny also told reporters he would be keen on a rematch with Roman, who was forced to withdraw from a scheduled mandatory title defense, due to a shoulder injury.
