Bank Holiday Beat the Barge event in Vicarstown should be a big draw again

Oughaval Athletic Club hosts its annual Beat the Barge 4k run in Vicarstown on this Bank Holiday Monday, October 28.

Now in its eighth year, this is a most popular event on the running calendar.

The run is comprised of 2km on the road, followed by 2k on the canal grass bank, and the aim is to get home before the barge – piloted by Philip and Orla Crean of Barrowline Cruises.

With prizes for the first five men, first five women, and prizes for secondary school students, it probably has more prizes than any other run in the county.

As usual there is a commemorative T-Shirt (for the first 200 registered) with original art-work, and sponsored this year by Downeys Suzuki.

The run gets underway at 12noon but you can register from 11am.

Adults – €12 & Children – €6.

Refreshments afterwards will be served in Creans Vicarstown.
