Check this out mate, a Laois chess tournament

So check this out! What a great idea.

A junior chess tournament for all primary school children in Laois.

The event is the brainchild of the Sport and Leisure Section of the local authority, taking in to consideration that not everyone gets involved in team or filed sports.

All levels will be catered for and each child will get to play at least 5 games. Swiss tournament rules will apply.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, November 9. Registration is from 8.45 to 9.15am and the venue is Portlaoise College on the Mountrath Road.

The matches will commence at 9.30am sharp.

There will be individual, special achievement school and club prizes.

Those wishing to participate should complete the registration form and bring it along on the day for registration. Entry is free and registration forms have been circulated to primary schools throughout the county.

Parents are welcome to remain at the venue while the tournament is in progress and light refreshments will be served.

For further information and registration details you can contact the Sports & Leisure section of Laois County Council on 057 8664058 or sports@laoiscoco.ie

The chess tournament initiative is also supported by the Laois Library Services and two chess clubs for children operate out of both Stradbally and Abbeyleix libraries.

This is the third year of the chess tournament with 96 entries at first, increasing to 114 last year.
