Deep sadness as young Laois Civil Defence member is laid to rest

Tributes have been paid to a member of Laois Civil Defence who passed away following a battle with illness.

Nicola Dollard (nee Kelly), from Rathevan, Portlaoise, a married mother of one, was laid to rest yesterday.

She is survived by her husband Damien, son Andrew, parents Carmel and Gerry, brother John and sister Michelle.

Laois Civil Defence said: “It is with a heavy heart that we learn of the passing of third officer Nicola Dollard after a long illness.

“Nicola has served Laois Civil Defence for over 10 years and was a core member of our service.

“She will be loved and missed by all of us. May she rest in peace.”

Fergal Conroy of Roscommon Civil Defence also paid tribute to Nicola.

He said: “As a former officer of Laois CD I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Nicola a genuine and caring volunteer and dedicated member to Laois and the national organisation.

“My deepest sympathies to Damian and Andrew, and the Dollard and Kelly families at this sad and difficult time for them.”

Clare Civil Defence said: “Clare CD’s deepest sympathies to our colleagues in Laois. To Nicola and Damien’s family and their innumerable friends … there are no words.

“Nicola was typical of all CD volunteers – committed and exceptional. The Light of Heaven to you Nicola.”

While Laois County Fire and Rescue said: “Deepest condolences to our colleagues at Laois Civil-Defence on the untimely passing of Third Officer Nicola Dollard.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.”

Nicola, who is also survived by brother in law Alan, mother in law Marcella, father in law Billy, grandfather John, sister in law Erin, brother in law Michael, nieces Chloe, Rebecca, Sophie, Grace, relatives and friends, passed away on Saturday.

Her funeral mass took place at St Edmund’s Church, Castletown followed by burial in St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

May she Rest in Peace.
