The recently re-named MW Hire O’Moore Park is to host the Leinster senior club hurling final this weekend when Kilkenny giants Ballyhale Shamrocks take on Carlow side St Mullins.
The game is pencilled in for a 2pm throw-in in the Portlaoise venue and will be broadcast live on TG4.
It’s the second big game in a week for MW Hire O’Moore Park having hosted the Portlaoise v Eire Og Leinster club football semi-final on Saturday night last which was also broadcast live on RTE.
Ballyhale Shamrocks are the reigning All Ireland club champions and are managed by former Kilkenny great Henry Shefflin.
TJ Reid and Colin Fennelly are among their big games as is veteran Michael Fennelly, who will manage the Offaly hurlers next season, as well as Adrian Mullen, this year’s young player of the year after a sensational season with Kilkenny.
St Mullin’s, conquerers of Rathdowney-Errill in the semi-final, are coming off the back of three thrilling one-point wins in a row having beaten Cuala of Dublin in their opening game in Leinster and Mount Leinster Rangers in the Carlow final.
James Doyle and Marty Kavanagh will be looking to continue their impressive form but they will again be rank outsiders.
They are priced at 8/1 with Ballyhale Shamrocks at 1/14 and the draw at 16/1.
