Portlaoise RFC edge past Edenderry to continue strong league campaign

Portlaoise RFC took home three points after a six point win over Edenderry at the weekend, their fifth win from seven games.

The win sees them remain in third place of the Leinster League Division 2A table just behind Mullingar RFC and Coolmine.

There were three trys on display and two conversions to add to Portlaoise’s scoreline.

John Scully scored the side’s first try of the game in the 15th minute which was followed up by a Niall Keenan conversion.

After a spell of bad handling, Edenderry’s first try came in the 25th minute to reduce Portlaoise’s lead to two points at half time.

The score at the break was 7-5.

Portlaoise had a stronger second half with Ross Cooper getting over the line for their second before a missed conversion.

Edenderry followed Portlaoise’s lead with a try and missed conversion and from there Cooper stepped up once again with Portlaoise’s third try complimented by another Keenan conversion.

A penalty for Edenderry was the last score of the game with three minutes to go to allow Portlaoise the victory.

The man of the match performance came from Kevin Griffin.
