Previewing tonight’s U-20 football final between Courtwood-Emo and Portarlington

Portarlington take on Courtwood-Emo in the U-20 Championship final in Stradbally tonight at 7:45pm.

Following on from strong performances from both sides in their semi-finals, it can only be assumed there is a very entertaining game in store.

After snow forced a re-fixture, Portarlington beat Portlaoise by two points after extra time in their semi-final where Colin Slevin and Ronan Coffey racked up 1-7 between them.

Alex Mohan, Cathal Bennett, Jordan Fitzpatrick, Eoin Kennedy, Curtis Lyons and Daragh Galvin are also among their main players at this age.

Courtwood-Emo are going into the game as favourites as they beat Portarlington earlier in the season in the group stages.

They beat O’Dempsey’s by 18 points in the semi-final where goals from Jack Owens, Rory Doyle, Alan Kinsella and Paddy Hosey lead the way.

Niall Dunne, Cian Doyle, Matthew Byron, Paul O’Flynn and Laois Senior footballer, Sean O’Flynn are all part of the squad who will be looking for the title.

On paper, it is set to be a cracker of a game. Both teams are very familiar with one another and will no doubt push each other to their limits.

Verdict: Courtwood-Emo
