Bad weather hits local soccer as just a handful of games played

Portlaoise AFC are now just one win away from claiming the title

Storm Atiyah made its presence felt on the Atlantic Coast of Ireland today and it also swept in a number of heavy showers our direction too.

From the three local leagues, just nine of the proposed fixtures involving Laois teams actually went ahead.

In the CCFL, the Division 1 meeting between neighbours Clonaslee and Rosenallis fell victim to the weather while so too did games involving Towerhill and Mountmellick.

In the Carlow League, all games were postponed meaning that the only Laois team to play was one playing in a competition outside the county.

Crettyard United advanced to the next stage of the LFA Junior Cup with a 3-0 win over Enniskerry.

While just games involving Durrow Lions and Clover United B went ahead in Kilkenny.
