The Laois Camogie team suffered a narrow defeat to Tipperary in their opening game of Division 2 this morning.

Played in Golden GAA grounds, this young Laois side battled gamely against their hosts but went down by four points in the end.

In really difficult conditions on a very heavy pitch, a Kirsten Keenan free was the only score in the opening quarter.

Niamh Coss grabbed a second for Laois but Tipperary came back into the game with two points from Emily Morrissey – one of which was a penalty and the other a free – before what turned out to be the game’s crucial score.

Rosanna O’Donnell struck for a goal and although Keenan landed a second free, Tipperary led 1-2 to 0-3 at half time.

The second half was a similarly tight affair. Laois had points from Keenan and Laura Finlay but the goal they needed would not come.

In the end, points from Claire Stakelum, Sarah Delaney and Clodagh McIntyre were enough to see Tipperary’s second string over the line.

Laois’s next game is away to Dublin on March 8 while their re-arranged game against Antrim is yet to be refixed.
