Anticipation builds ahead of annual charity ball in Killenard

One of the highlights of the local social calendar is set to return to The Heritage in Killenard this Friday night, February 28, for the 14th annual Portarlington and Killenard Gala Ball.

The event has raised over €300,000 for local charities over the years.

The night is in aid of the Midland Hospice build.

Speaking about this, organiser Marie Corcoran says “It is a disgrace that we are the only region to not have a hospice and this is why we are running this ball to raise funds for one.

“Tullamore Lions got the ball rolling on this and we are doing all we can to help them and raise funds ourselves.”

Colette Kenny is one of a trio of long-serving organisers along with Maria Molloy and Marie Corcoran who have been organising the event for over a decade.

Marie Corcoran previously told LaoisToday: “We have been called the Three Musketeers and everything else as well”.

The event begins at 7.30pm with smart dress when the ladies generally put the man to shame when it comes to the fashion stakes.

Claire Byrne will be the special guest on the night and organiser Marie Corcoran says “We are honoured to have Claire as our special guest on Friday, she’s a great Laois woman.”

Transmitter will be the music on the night, followed up by a disco.

JL Sound will be singing in the lobby as the guests arrive, there will be a red carpet and it is set to be a glamorous night.

300 tickets have already been snapped up with only a few tickets left.

Tickets can be purchased from any of the organisers.
