Storm Jorge meant all games in the CCFL were called off on Saturday.

And with three storms in the last four weekends chucking a lot of water around the place, only a handful of soccer games were played anywhere today.

We have a report from Mountmellick’s win over Highfield in Division 1 of the CCFL and all the results of the games involving Laois teams in the CCFL and Carlow leagues:

Mountmellick United 4 Highfield 0
CCFL Division 1

Mountmellick United are up to fourth in Division 1 of the CCFL following a comprehensive win over Highfield this morning.

Tom Christle’s side are now seven points behind leaders and fellow Laois side Towerhill but they have two games in hand on the Portlaoise outfit.

Veteran Mark Grennan was their hero today as he scored a hat-trick and played a role in a fourth goal too.

Mountmellick took ten minutes to open the scoring as a long throw from Grennan was flicked on by John Watchorne where Robbie Hibbits finished at back post.

Five minutes later, Grennan shot from 25 yards out and caught the keeper off guard to extend the lead.

Eoghan O’Riordan then played a great ball through to Grennan who wrong footed the keeper on the half hour mark to make it 3-0.

Grennan sealed the deal with his hat-trick in the second half and finished off the game.
