Strong Laois representation as Ladies Football College finals weekend set to begin

The Ladies football colleges semi finals are set to take place in the next few days with the fixtures being getting this Friday.

The O’Connor Cup is the female equivalent of the Sigerson Cup for college football and it will be keenly contested by the four remaining teams: UL, DCU, UCD and UCC.

DCU take on UCC at 2.30pm on Friday while UL face UCD at 3pm.

The O’Connor Cup, which was last year won by UL, is the most prestigious competition in Ladies football, excluding Inter County competitions, and it is a great achievement for all the teams to have made it to this stage.

There is a Laois representation on the UL and DCU teams with Emma Lawlor of St Paul’s playing for the DCU team and Erone Fitzpatrick and Anna Healy of Park-Ratheniska lining out for UL along with Mary Cotter of St Conleth’s.

There is a further Laois connection on the DCU team as former Ballyfin men’s and ladies manager and Laois Ladies selector, Stephen Duff, is involved in the management team for the college.

Elsewhere in the second tier of the ladies football college competitions, the Giles Cup, Portlaoise’s Aoife Hyland Conlan is a member of the Mary I team who are in the semi final.

The semi finals of both competitions are taking place down in Kerry on Friday in the Centre of Excellence in Currans with the winners of the semi’s then advancing to the finals in Austin Stack Park the next day.

Best of luck to all teams involved!
