Laois man dies following tragic accident on local golf course

A Laois man has passed away following a tragic accident on a local golf course this morning.

LaoisToday understands that the man was carrying out some maintenance work at Mountrath Golf Club when the tragedy occurred.

He is believed to be a volunteer and was aged in his 60s.

Golf courses are closed to the public at present due to Covid-19 restrictions but they are allowed to carry out maintenance work to maintain the courses for when they do reopen.

The man is understood to have lost control of the equipment he was operating.

The man sadly was injured and rushed to hospital.

However, he lost his fight for life a short time later.

Gardai attended the scene while an investigation is being carried out by the Health and Safety Authority.
