Clough-Ballacolla 4-26 Castletown 0-11
Laois Shopping Centre SHC Round 3
John Dwyer fired over a hat-trick and Jordan Walshe hit eight points from play as Clough-Ballacolla clobbered Castletown to reach the semi finals of the championship.
It was a game that had no consequence for Castletown as they were in the relegation final regardless and the match lacked any real intensity as a result.
Clough-Ballacolla were against the wind in the first half but that didn’t bother them one bit as they put the game to bed before half time.
John Dwyer scored two goals off the back of rebounds from Stephen Maher shots while they also raised white flags at will.
Jordan Walshe scored five points from play while Mark Hennessy, Ronan Broderick, Aidan Corby and Brian Corby also registered efforts.
The best of what Castletown could muster came from Dylan Conroy while Aaron Gaughan, Tadhg Cuddy and John Gaughan also pointed.
But Clough-Ballacolla led 2-12 to 0-6 at half time and it was game over by then.
And it was more of the same in the second half as Clough-Ballacolla kicked on to win very well and seal a semi final place.
John Dwyer finished with a hat-trick while Jordan Walshe continued to score at will from play too.
Castletown kept going but they were in a relegation final in two weeks time regardless of today’s outcome – and their third big defeat will leave them fairly demoralised.
As for Ballacolla, they must await the outcome of tomorrow’s game between Abbeyleix and Rathdowney-Errill to see if they will top or finish second in the group.
