Covid-19 hospitalisations continue to rise as one patient critically ill in Portlaoise

There are two patients being treated for Covid-19 in Portlaoise Hospital.

One of the patients is being treated in a critical care unit while the other is fighting the virus from general beds.

Meanwhile, Portlaoise Hospital is also treating a further three patients who are being treated as suspected cases.

These are the latest figures pertaining to the hospital as of 8pm last night.

A further update this morning shows that nationally there are now 221 patients in hospitals as of 8am.

This is an increase of 20 in the last 24 hours and further demonstrates the problem associated with the high number of cases we are seeing each day.

On September 30, there were 117 patients with Covid-19 and today’s number is the highest figure since late May.

Nationally, there are 30 patients being treated in Critical Care Units and 19 of these are on ventilators.

Sadly, one patient who was in ICU has died in the last 24 hours.

A further 11 suspected cases are in Critical Care Units with three of these on ventilators.
