Two of the first babies to be born in Ireland in 2021 were delivered in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Portlaoise Hospital.
The first, at just four minutes past midnight, is certainly close to being the newest member of 2021 in the entire country.
Lily Bernadette Snell came into the world to the immense joy of Maggie Keatley and partner Frank Snell who both come from Kildare.
A spokesperson for Portlaoise Hospital said: “Baby Lily Bernadette Snell came into the world at 4 minutes past midnight to the delight of Maggie Keatley and partner Frank Snell, from Kildare.
“Congratulations to you all and best wishes.”
In what was a much quieter New Year’s Day than ever for most of us, the staff in the maternity unit were very busy as another baby arrived a short few hours later.
Laois parents Manda Byrne and Enda Gorman were celebrating as baby Jamie entered the world.
Congratulations to all!
