Laois man nearing completion of remarkable fundraising feat in aid of local nursing home

A Laois man is nearing the end of a remarkable fundraising feat in aid of a local nursing home.

Jamie Malone from Graiguecullen has been pushing his body to its limit over the last 27 days – all in aid of St Fiacc’s House.

Jamie, who owns Malone Health and Fitness, set himself the task of running 500km, and doing 5,000 push ups and 5,000 sit ups by this Sunday – January 31.

He’s making great progress on that front and even better on the fundraising front as he has now generated more than €5,600 on his GoFundMe Page.

Jamie explained how working in St Fiacc’s House before the pandemic struck showed him the wonderful work that manager Joan Doogue and her staff do – so he simply wanted to give something back.

Jamie said: “The new year means new goals for many. To start the year off, I have set myself a January fitness goal of 500km running, 5,000 push ups, and 5,000 sit ups.

“This total will have to be achieved by the 31st of January and will be carried out virtually. Information on my progress can be found via Instagram.

“Due to the harsh and uncertain times we have all faced the past year, I have decided to try and give back and contribute a little to my own community, therefore the funds being raised will go towards St Fiacc’s House in Graiguecullen.

“As a physical trainer, I was working twice a week for the last three years with the residents and day care of the nursing home, until the pandemic hit.

“The work Joan and her staff put in on a day to day base is incredible and I know the money will be put to very good use.

“Please get behind this fundraiser as I know it will mean so much to many.

“Many thanks in advance for all your kind proceeds and messages of support.”
