Laois community comes together to wish 85 year-old man a happy birthday

Michael Dunne with Garda Anderson in Portarlington

A Laois community came together to give one of their most loved residents the best birthday possible.

Portarlington native Michael Dunne turned 85-years-old today.

Reaching such a milestone would typically result in a big celebration – but the Covid times that we live in prevent that from happening now.

And so, Mr Dunne’s neighbours and family got together and asked the people of Portarlington to send them birthday cards.

They hoped to get 85 – but have actually ended up with more than 300.

Laois Gardai were on hand to present a delighted Michael with his cards this afternoon.

They say: “Portarlington native Michael Dunne was 85 years old today.

“His neighbour and relatives reached out to the people of Portarlington to get 85 birthday cards.

“He received over 300 cards that were presented to him by Garda Anderson today.

“Happy Birthday Mr. Dunne.”

Happy birthday Michael!
