The Killeshin footballers have been boosted ahead of the 2021 season with the news that a former Clare senior goalkeeper has transferred to the club.
Killian Roche, who has played minor and U-21 championship for the Banner County as well as with the seniors in the National League, has transferred to Killeshin from his home club of Cooraclare.
Roche was a student in IT Carlow and was the goalkeeper on the team that reached last year’s Sigerson Cup final.
He is now working locally and has opted to move to Killeshin where he will link up with his IT Carlow team-mate Evan Lowry.
Incidentally Roche is the second goalkeeper in recent weeks to transfer to Killeshin following the decision of former Ballinteer St John’s player Isaac Tallant to move to the club.
Tallant was also in IT Carlow and has been playing in goals for the Killeshin soccer team in the Carlow league.
And Killeshin have already one of the most highly-rated club goalkeepers in the county in Shane Coakley so there will no doubt be keen competition for the Number 1 jersey, whenever the 2021 championship actually gets played.
Killeshin will be managed by former Carlow and Eire Og player Christy Bolger who was over the Carlow minors last year.
Some of the other inter-county transfers to be granted recently saw Cahir Healy’s switch from Portlaoise to St Brendan’s in London approved and Pakie Flynn from The Harps to Sydney Shamrocks.
Players transferring within Laois are dealt with by Laois GAA while players going to another Leinster county are administered by Leinster GAA and by the GAA at central level if they are going to a non-Leinster county.
