Planning permission lodged for new pharmacy in Laois town

A new pharmacy could be on its way to Laois’s main town after planning permission was lodged recently.

Heffernan Pharmacy are looking to set up in Portlaoise.

They are hoping to set up a shop on the Mountrath Road – at Unit 2, Boughlone.

This was previously home to a Lewis Opel dealership and while a large section of it has been filled by McSorley’s Centra and forecourt since last July, there are a number of vacant in recent years.

Their plan, which has been submitted to Laois County Council, is to convert the former car sales office/car showrooms to a pharmacy unit with associated site works.

This new pharmacy would be situated close to estates such as Bellingham and Marybourough – areas that have grown rapidly in recent years.

A decision on the new pharmacy is due by May 17.

Correction – This piece originally stated that Heffernan Pharmacy had businesses in Tipperary. LaoisToday are happy to clarify that the Heffernan Pharmacy that are applying for this planning permission in Portlaoise are not connected to the business in Tipperary.
