Weekend vandalism forces Laois GAA club to relocate life-saving defibrillator

A Laois GAA club have been forced to relocate a piece of life-saving equipment following weekend vandalism.

Shanahoe GAA club was broken into and the front door was completely smashed.

Chairman Michael Bergin explained that thankfully nothing was taken – it was an act of unprovoked vandalism.

Michael said: “Our club house was damaged over the weekend.

“They kicked in the door. The defibrillator was just inside the door but thankfully it wasn’t damaged.

“This was an attack on our club – a needless act of vandalism from somebody who doesn’t care about other people.

“With Covid, the grounds have become an area where people can go for a walk and meet safely outdoors – older people have got great solace here and we are very sad that this happened.

“As a result the defibrillator is now located at Michael Bergin’s House in Shanahoe village.

“Please contact him at anytime if the defibrillator is required – 087-6813833

“There is also a defibrillator located at Shanahoe Hall.

“A statement has been made to the Gardaí in relation to this and we ask anyone with information to please contact Abbeyleix Garda Station.”
