Ten Laois based players named on Leinster rugby U-18 girls squad

Portlaoise and Portarlington both won their games in the Leinster League this afternoon but Port must still beat Newbridge on Tuesday to maintain their Division 2A status

Ten Laois based players have been named on the Leinster Rugby U-18 Girls squad for the coming season.

Port-Dara Falcons, an amalgamation of Portarlington and Cill Dara Rugby clubs has six representatives.

Ava Gleeson, Taragh Kirwan, Alanna Fitzpatrick, Sarah Delaney, Hannah Wilson and Eadaoin Murtagh have all made the cut.

Three members of Portlaoise Rugby have also been selected.

Koren Dunne and Alison Kelly from Portlaoise have made the cut, alongside Emma Larkin from Straboe.

While Kilcavan native Leah Tarpey who plays for Tullamore RFC has also been chosen for the squad.

She is set to be very busy over the coming months as she will juggle this alongside her existing commitments to the Laois minor and senior football teams.

Over the course of three Sundays in May, close to 120 players from schools and clubs took part in three on-pitch screening sessions at Cill Dara RFC.

After which, Koren, Alison and Emma were then selected for the Leinster U-18 squad.

A panel of 46 players has been selected and they will be coached by Michael Bolger.

A spokesperson for Leinster Rugby congratulated the girls on making the team.

They said: “Congratulations to all the girls who took part and best of luck to those selected to participate and represent their clubs at provincial level.”
