Ray Dunne

There was deep shock and sadness last night following the passing of a much loved Laois man.

Raymond Dunne, from The Swan in Laois, passed away suddenly on Monday July 5.

A revered member of the motorsport scene in Laois, Mr Dunne’s passing led to an outpouring of emotion on social media last night.

The tributes to Raymond were led by Laois Rallysport Club on Facebook.

They said: “It’s been a tough day for our club.

“It is with deep sadness that we have to write this message. We learned earlier today of the sudden passing of long time club member Ray Dunne.

“It has taken us some time to process this devastating news.
Many of us have known Ray for a very long time, he has been an outstanding member of the club and has travelled and represented the club on many different banks and roads across the country.

“Ray loved rallying and put his heart and soul into anything he done, be that marshalling or as an excellent Stage Commander.

“We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt sympathies to his partner Dee and family at this extremely difficult time.

“Ray will be fondly remembered by all in the club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Ray’s brother Dom, a well-known businessman in Portlaoise, also paid a heartfelt tribute to him.

He said: “Words cant describe how I feel right now. My brother, my friend gone too early.

“By god did you enjoy your life. I hope you’re back with mam and dad. Look after them and fill them in on all the gossip.

“All the weekends away we spent together – Wow we had some crack at the Galway races.

“You telling the odd lie that only you yourself could believe. You were a lovable rogue with not a bad bone in your body.

“I’m devastated and broken-hearted. You have broken the chain.

“Let the Wolfhill sod lie gently on you. Rest easy brother until we meet again.”

Funeral arrangements for the late Mr Dunne will be announced soon.

May he Rest in Peace.
