Draws made for 2021 Laois club football championships

Laois GAA

The draws for the 2021 Laois club football championships have been made.

Typically, these would be held publicly in Laois Shopping Centre but due to Covid-19, they have been streamed instead.

Although two competitions from 2020 remain outstanding, only one of those effects tonight’s draw.

The 2020 Junior ‘B’ football championship final between Graiguecullen and Spink had still yet to be played.

The involvement of Cha Dwyer, Paul Simms and Sean Downey with the Laois senior hurlers means that game cannot be played until the hurlers are finished.

So for the purposes of this draw, both sides have been placed in Junior ‘A’ and ‘B’ on an either/or basis.

The 2020 Senior football championship is at semi final stage. Ballyfin will face Portarlington and Graiguecullen will take on Emo.

It is believed that those games could be played on the final weekend of July – with official confirmation due shortly.

As regards formats, the Senior and Intermediate follow the same as in recent years – knock-out with a backdoor.

Junior A consists of 14 teams and they are split into four groups – two four-team groups and two three-team groups. The top two from each reach the quarter finals.

Junior B is four groups of three teams with the top from each reaching the semi finals while Junior C is straight knock-out.
