Dates confirmed for outstanding 2020 Laois GAA championship fixtures

GAA rules

The dates for the outstanding 2020 football and hurling championship competitions have been confirmed by Laois GAA.

As it stands, the Senior and Junior ‘B’ football championships plus the Senior and Premier Intermediate hurling championships are still to be completed.

They were halted last October as Covid-19 cases spiked and club action was shut down.

It was permitted to resume in May but with inter-county action ongoing at the time, Laois GAA were still unable to recommence.

However, the elimination of the senior footballers two weeks ago made the picture clearer for Laois GAA.

The senior hurlers are still playing but they are likely to be finished by the weekend of July 25.

So the action will recommence of Friday, August 6, with the semi final meeting of Emo and Graiguecullen in the senior football championship.

On Saturday, the second football semi final will take place and Sunday, August 8, will see the conclusion of the Junior ‘B’ football championship.

The following weekend will be very busy with three county finals down for decision.

Friday, August 13, will see the Premier Intermediate hurling clash between Portlaoise and The Harps while Borris-Kilcotton and Clough-Ballacolla will play the Senior hurling final on Saturday, August 14.

The 2020 action will conclude on Sunday, August 15, as the Senior football final will be played.

Teams will have just two weeks then to get ready for the Senior hurling championship for 2021 which will commence on Thursday, August 26.

Thursday, September 2, will bring the start of the Senior football championship.
