Second Paralympic final for Nicole Turner following fantastic swim in 100m Breaststroke

Portarlington’s Nicole Turner will compete in her second final at the 2020 Paralympics later this morning.

The Laois teenager has reached the SB6 100m Breaststroke final following a fantastic performance in her heat.

Maisie Summers-Newton swam a new Paralympic record to win Nicole’s heat with the Laois woman finishing third.

Nicole’s time of 1.40.82 is a new personal best as she knocked 1.63 seconds off her best ever time.

She has qualified as the the fifth fastest swimmer for the final and will certainly be in the running for a medal.

The final is scheduled for 9.07am and you’ll be able to watch it live on RTE 2.

This is the second final for Turner who took part in the S6 50m Freestyle on Wednesday – finishing in eighth place.

After this race, Nicole will go on to compete in one further event.

Nicole’s specialist event is the 50m Butterfly. The heats of which are on Monday August 30 at 1.42am with a subsequent final at 9.57am.

Portlaoise’s Gary O’Reilly, who is a hand-cyclist, is set to be in action next week.
