Silver medal for Nicole Turner at 2020 Paralympics in Butterfly

Portarlington’s Nicole Turner has won her first ever Paralympic medal.

The teenager claimed silver in the Women’s 50m S6 Butterfly this morning.

Her time of 36.30 was only bettered by Jiang Yuyan of China who swam a time of 34.69.

This was the third final that the 19-year-old competed in at the games.

She first took part in the S6 50m Freestyle on Wednesday – finishing in eighth place.

While on Saturday, Nicole finished seventh in the final of the SB6 100m Breaststroke.

Meanwhile, Laois’s involvement at the Paralympics will continue in the shape of Portlaoise’s Gary O’Reilly.

The hand-cyclist will compete in the Men’s H5 Time Trial Final in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

And his second event – the Men’s H5 Road Race Final – will take place early on Wednesday.
