HSE clarify booster schedule after Laois people turned away at walk-in clinic

St Fintan's Hospital

The HSE have clarified the booster Covid-19 vaccine schedule after a number of people were turned away in Laois at the weekend.

In a press release last Thursday, the HSE said that the booster ‘will only be available to people who have already completed their primary course of COVID-19 vaccine’.

On Sunday, a walk-in booster centre opened in St Fintan’s Hospital in Portlaoise for those aged 60-69.

However, some people who had not completed their primary course of the vaccine queued to receive their booster but were then told they were not eligible.

A HSE official said: “People must be five months (152 days) post receiving second dose of vaccine in order to receive their booster.

“Anyone unsure of the exact date of their second vaccine can check it on your EU Digital Covid Certificate.”

The HSE also confirmed that 785 people in the above age category received their booster jabs on Sunday.

The HSE added that the clinic will be open for booster doses for registered over 60s and persons with underlying conditions on Tuesday November 30. These are by appointment only.

The HSE are doing dose 1 and dose 2 walk-in clinic at this centre on Wednesday December 1 from 9am to 5pm.
