SOLAS Eco Garden Centre – Bees, butchers and tractors

SOLAS ECO GARDEN (2)

Another successful week here at SOLAS, as even with what at best can be described as ‘mixed weather’ we are becoming a ‘busy 7-days a week’ destination for those seeking plants, garden products, quality food or just a good day out.

A recent fact-finding mission to Germany to benchmark SOLAS against the best across Europe has led to some wonderful new ideas for the year ahead – the first of which is a new lease of life for an antique tractor!

Weekly Farmers’ Market

This Saturday 21 May 2022, 10am-2pm will have a number of new entrants:

  • The oldest of which is dates from the 1950s and a red ‘McCormick International’ Tractor. This is a wonderful piece of local agricultural history and had been used for many productive years by local farming contractor John Mulhall, from the ‘Woodenbridge’. It now creates a wonderful centrepiece to the Farmers’ Market
  • ‘Feighery’s butchers’ are joining the SOLAS market this weekend. Fran and his team will be huge addition to the market due to their reputation for quality, value and local sourcing. So a huge welcome to Feigherys and hoping for a prosperous year ahead.

  • Local knit craft artist Adreana Hristova will be joining us for the first time this weekend. She brings a really colourful rang of knitted fun bookmarks, hats and toys.

  • As always there is will be the very best of organic Meat, Fresh local vegetables, Bread, cakes, a range of ‘Taste of Laois’ Products.

Also check out our range of Bee friendly plants to celebrate national bee day.

SOLAS – Events

This Saturday the 21 May is a celebration of the role Bees play in the health of our environment. While the terrible events in Ukraine continue to dominate the news, the real slow-burning international disaster continues be the decline in our natural environment coupled with carbon emissions. Actions count and raising the public awareness of the role bees play is important. The day is being marked by a series of events at SOLAS

Also check us out our stall at the Shine Event this Saturday in Emo Court.

SOLAS Weather

The weather this weekend is forecast to be mixed.
