Six Laois clubs have shared almost €238,000 following appeals in the Sports Capital Grant scheme.
The news follows on from the announcement in February when a total of 55 Laois clubs were awarded funding totalling over €3.3 million.
Graiguecullen GAA are the biggest winners of today’s news as they have been given €66,569,65 for a redevelopment they are working on on their club grounds while Portlaoise Rugby Club have been given almost €54,000 for a walking track.
Castletown Community Sports Field, Crettyard GAA, Kilcotton GAA and Portlaoise Soccer Club have also been successful in their appeals.
Nationally there were 148 appeals against the decisions made earlier this year – 108 of those appeals were successful.
“This funding allocations to these six clubs/organisations will now facilitate them proceeding with their projects which will be of great benefit to their members, clubs and communities in their area,” said Laois-Offaly TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State at the Department of Finance.
“Everybody in society can benefits from the physical and mental benefits of sports and exercise.
“I congratulate all involved in their successful appeals and I look forward to these projects getting under way as soon as possible.”
“I am delighted to see that sports organisations across Laois and Offaly will benefit from funding following a number of successful appeals to the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme,” added Minister Pippa Hackett.
“I welcomed the announcement that organisations that were unsuccessful in the 2020 round of funding would have the opportunity to submit an appeal and it is wonderful to see that the hard work and dedication of many of those applicants has been rewarded today.”
