Portlaoise business man to tackle Cork half marathon this weekend in aid of very special cause

Colm O'Hara Cork Marathon

A well-known Portlaoise businessman is set to hit the streets of Cork this Sunday to run a half marathon in aid of a very special cause.

Colm O’Hara, owner of Allbooks in Lyster Square in Portlaoise, is a relative newcomer to the running scene having really only gotten into it in the past year.

But he stepped it up after Christmas with the intention of doing the Cork half marathon, with the funds he’s raising to go to St Francis School in Portlaoise, a cause very close to his family’s heart.

Colm’s late brother Jimmy Deegan, a brother of his wife Sara, was a student in St Francis in the 1970s where he loved his time there under guidance of principals Pat O’Keeffe and Joe Farrell.

Colm has set up a Go Fund Me page where you can donate.

St Francis School moved into their new building on the Borris Road in Portlaoise in 2021 where they have 12 classrooms.

But they have plans in place to build four extra classrooms which should come on board in the coming years.
