Gardai arrest two and charge with 16 offences following robbery in Laois town

Gardai in Laois arrested two people recently following a burgarly that occurred in Portarlington.

The arrests were made on Thursday July 14 and the two were charged with 16 separate offences.

These were all charged under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

One was remanded in custody while the other was granted bail.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Portlaoise and Portarlington Garda arrested 2 people on Thursday July 14 in respect of a burglary in Portarlington.

“Both were questioned and subsequently charged in respect of 16 separate offences under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

“One was remanded in custody and the other was granted bail with strict conditions.”

Meanwhile, Gardai on Sunday morning detected a speeding driver and stopped them.

The driver failed a breath test and was subsequently arrested.

Gardai say: “Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrol detected this vehicle travelling at 169kph on the M7 near Portlaoise.

“The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. A further breath sample taken at Portlaoise Garda Station was over twice the legal limit.

“The driver has been Charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court.”
