Lanigan strikes again as Big Island gallops to glory in Galway for Laois connections

Coolrain Hogan Pub Syndicate Billy Lanigan Big Island

There was a big win for a Laois trainer and owners with strong Laois connections in Galway on Monday.

The 4.40pm angloprinters.ie Handicap Hurdle went to Big Island – trained by The Heath based Billy Lanigan.

This was Mr Lanigan’s second winner of the new season and the horse bolted up at odds of 6/1.

It comes quickly after Lanigan’s first which saw Shantou Sisu win in Downpatrick last week.

Danny Mullins was on board as the horse took the lead turning for home and won by five lengths.

There is a further Laois connection as the horse is owned by the Hogans Pub Coolrain syndicate.

Speaking to IrishRacing.com, Lanigan expressed his delight at how the horse handled the track.

He said: “We didn’t have him when he won on the Flat here last year but it was good to know he handled the track.

“The bit of ease in the ground was a help to him and he’s a nice horse going forward.”
