Fundraiser launched in bid to bring Christmas tree to Laois town once again

Portarlington Christmas Tree

A fundraiser has been launched to raise money in order to bring a Christmas tree to a Laois town once again this year.

Portarlington has always looked exceptional at Christmas time and plans are in place to keep that tradition going.

A GoFundme campaign has been set up by the Portarlington Christmas Tree Committee in order to cover the lighting costs this festive season.

Like everything else, costs associated with lighting the tree will be much higher this year.

So, organisers are hoping to raise €5,000 to cover this.

A spokesperson said: “The Portarlington Christmas Tree committee are asking for the public’s help in raising funds to cover the costs of decorating the town over the festive period.

“The Square in the town has been lit for over 40 years and they are keen to continue carrying on the tradition.

“However, insurance, electric and maintenance costs mean they require assistance.

“As the committee are hoping to raise €5,000, any support that can be given would be greatly appreciated.”
