End of the line for Park-Ratheniska as valiant Leinster Intermediate challenge against Shelmalier falls short

Leinster Ladies Club IFC Round 1

Park-Ratheniska’s journey in the Leinster Intermediate Championship is over after they were narrowly beaten today.

Tomas Moore’s side were up against Wexford Senior champions Shelmalier in Ratheniska this afternoon.

They put in a fine display and were desperately unlucky not to emerge on the winning side.

The visitors opened the scoring with an early goal but Park-Ratheniska burst into proceedings as youngster Tara Byrne rattled the net in reply.

The sides then traded points before Erone Fitzpatrick landed a brace to leave Ratheniska 1-3 to 1-1 ahead at the midpoint of the half.

And things got even better shortly after when her sister Aine became the second Ratheniska player to raise a green flag.

However, the Wexford side came roaring back and scored 1-2 before the break to send the sides in level – 2-3 apiece.

Aine Fitzpatrick restored Park-Ratheniska’s lead when play resumed but the visitors quickly went ahead with three unanswered points.

Rachel O’Connell left one between them as we entered the final quarter but that was as close as Ratheniska would get.

They went in search of goals in the closing stages but they didn’t come and their race was run.
